Rory in green, Scottie out in front, and Bryson on both their heels: this season of golf has been pure cinema. In fact, the past 6 majors have been won by Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, and Bryson DeChambeau – four of the top-five players in the world. The household names are showing up on the biggest stages with even Jon Rahm flashing signs of his major championship-winning self this past weekend. Next month’s U.S. Open at Oakmont is shaping up to be yet another heavyweight showdown.

However, I’m getting ahead of myself. It’s Scottie vs. the field at Colonial, but even a guaranteed payout might not be the play if he defends at here in Columbus or makes another run at a major.
With 2 majors to go, a handful of signature events, and the tour championship to finish there is still a lot of golf left to play and ample opportunity for a comeback. Also bear in mind the disparity in remaining player pools, hopefully you’ve kept a few reliable players in your arsenal especially for the tour championship run.

I’ll outline all the implications of the Fed-Ex Cup multi-stage playoffs in more detail as it grows nearer, but think of it as back-to-back-to-back $20 Million signature events with smaller and smaller fields each tournament. Only 30 players make it to East Lake and they even give the leaders strokes making it the highest and most predictable payouts of our season…. provided you still have players to choose from so please ration accordingly.
On a Personal Note
I had the luxury of touring Philadelphia Cricket Club a couple of weekends ago en route to the Shane-Straka showdown. It was somewhat cathartic to hear the pros give snide remarks about obsolete courses and then struggle for pars on the “short” 7100 yard Tillinghast classic. If you’re in the northeast or midwest, you can imagine how our unpredictable weather definitely played a factor as we subsequently then witnessed it wreak mud-ball havoc at Quail Hollow. Despite the rain and a few too many “Go Birds!” being yelled in backswings it was well worth the trip.
